St. Francis of Assisi Parish Legacy Society

St. Francis of Assisi Parish Legacy Society is a community of parishioners, former parishioners, and friends of the SFA Parish who have provided a gift (or a planned gift) of $1,000 or more to SFA Parish through an endowment.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish was established in 2015 when 3 churches – Mary, Help of Christians, St. Joseph, and St. Nicholas – joined as 1 parish.

The 3 churches have provided a place of worship, gathering, and community since 1852, 1909, and 1990 respectively.

Our ancestors spent a lot time, money, and effort to ensure these churches – now one parish – continued to provide for the community.

To ensure St. Francis of Assisi Parish – and all that it does for the community – lives on well past our lifetime, we ask that you consider giving a part of your estate to an endowment that will provide funds for the Parish forever.

Beyond leaving a legacy with your contribution, you will also receive:

– A membership certificate to commemorate your legacy contribution
– An invitation to a yearly Mass and dinner for you and your family
– A permanent nameplate that will be on display in each Parish Center with all other Legacy Society Members
– A Legacy Society annual report to ensure funds are performing/used as intended

Step 1: Learn about charitable giving options.

To provide long-term financial support for SFA Parish, SFA Parish recommends providing funds to one or both of the endowments listed below, or creating your own endowment.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish Endowment
This endowment provides funds for the general needs of the Parish.

St. Francis of Assisi Youth and Faith Formation Endowment
This endowment provides funds for the general needs of youth and faith formation within the Parish.

What is an Endowment?
An endowment is a donated fund that is invested to provide long-term financial support for a charity.

How Does an Endowment Work?

  1. A person gives a gift of cash/equivalent to SFA Parish at any time or after death to be used in an endowment.

A gift of $1,000 or more must be given to add to an existing endowment.
A gift of $5,000 or more must be given to create a new endowment.

    Three suggested ways to give:
    a. Give the gift of Cash.
    b. Designate an SFA Endowment as a Beneficiary of a financial account.
    c. Add a Bequest clause to your Will or Trust to give a part of your estate to an SFA Endowment.

What is a Bequest?
A bequest is something from your estate that is gifted to a charity by a written will, trust, or beneficiary designation.

  1. The gifts are invested.
  2. Each year, the returns from the endowment are reviewed.
If the returns are needed, then they are used per the endowment instructions.
If the returns are not needed, then they are added to the endowment to continue to grow.
  3. Note:
The original amount given for the endowment cannot be used in the Parish.
Only the returns are available for use.
This means your gift will live on forever in your name or the name of your choosing.

Step 2: Talk about it and Pray about it.

Talk with your family, financial advisor, attorney, and/or the parish office about contributing to an SFA Endowment. Pray about a contribution to an SFA Endowment.

Consider what you want to accomplish with this gift. A small amount of time devoted to deciding what to give, when to give, and how to give can make a real difference when deciding how much to give.

Think about:
– What charitable causes are most important to me?
– How do I want to be remembered?
– What lessons do I want to impart to my children?
– Is there a best way to incorporate charitable giving into my own financial plan?
– What are my charitable giving choices?
